The first five-year plan launched in India on 1 April 1951. It presented before the Parliament on 9 July 1951 under the leadership of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
- It was drafted by economist K.N. Raj.
- The first 5-year plan was based on the Harrod-Domar model.
- Agricultural development was its main focus.
- Five IITs were set up in India after the end of this plan.
- This helped us to get a growth rate of 3.6% per year which was more than the target.
